Day to Day
Upon arrival in Amritsar you will spend the day travelling to Snow Monk Camp. You will arrive in time for a short welcome talk and orientation tour of the camp, before settling in and enjoying dinner.
Community Service / Creativity / River Clean Up
Each year in the lower ranges of the Himalayas, pine trees shed their needles, which are hazardous and can trigger forest fires. As a great innovative idea, these wasted needles are being used to make a number of handicraft items. This morning you will head out to collect pine needles before joining in with the local community to turn them into something spectacular. You will also have the opportunity to purchase your handiwork. After lunch, you will head to the river, close to the local market to help with a river clean up. The evening will be spent playing a number of team building games and showcasing your best singing voice during Karaoke.
Acclimatisation Walk/ Adventure Activities
After breakfast you will head off on an acclimatisation’s walk, getting you ready for the coming days adventures. After a tasty lunch you will participate in several adventure activities such as zip lining, a commando net climb, parallel ropes and much more. Once back at base camp you will spend some time preparing your rucksack, getting yourself ready for the upcoming trek.
Trek to Camp 1 At Handi Forest (2300m) 6kms/ 4hrs
This morning you will head off along the river Khauli trekking to camp 1, located in a meadow in an enchanting forest. Once you have arrived, you will work as part of a team to set up your own tents. After a well-earned lunch you will work as a team on the river crossing activity. Later in the afternoon you will go through some basic wilderness first aid and rope knot training. The evening will be spent around the campfire, cooking dinner, relaxing and reflecting on the adventure so far.
Height Gain Day / Visit Chandrela Temple / Back to Base Camps (10kms/ 6hrs)
Today’s trek is a thrilling journey towards the snow zone. Along the way you will visit the Chandrela Temple and the forest nursery, where they nurture Himalayan tree saplings. You will arrive back at Camp 1 by lunch time, before heading down to base camp where you will spend the night.
Day Trip to Dharamshala
Travelling by bus to Dharamshala, you will stop off to visit Kangra Fort and the Norbulingka Institute. The Kangra Fort was built by the royal Rajput family of Kangra State (the Katoch dynasty), which traces its origins to the ancient Trigarta Kingdom. It is the largest fort in the Himalayas and probably the oldest dated fort in India. While the Norbulingka Institute is dedicated to handing down tradition and restoring standards by providing training, education and employment for Tibetans. The institute houses gardens, museum, temple, arts & crafts, sculptures & galleries. In the afternoon you will visit H.H. Dalai Lama Temple (also known as Namgyal Temple) the official home of his Holiness Tsuglagkhang. You will then have the chance to explore a local Tibetan market, before heading back to Snow Monk base camp.
Drive to Amritsar / Heritage Walk / Rickshaw Ride
Heading to Amritsar for your last full day in India, you will experience some of the best sites the City of the Golden Temple has to offer. Taking your time to travel around on a heritage walk you will pass many of the historic sites that make Amritsar famous.
Once breakfast is finished you will head to the airport for your journey home.
